The Artane School of Music also offers Grade 5 theory through ABRSM. Examinations up to Grade 5 are held in house based on the ABRSM guidelines.
The ABRSM is an examinations board and registered charity based in London, UK, which provides examinations in music at centres around the world.
ABRSM is one of four examination boards accredited by Ofqual (The UK equivalent of FETAC/HETAC) to award graded exams and diploma qualifications in music within the UK’s National Qualifications Framework (along with the London College of Music, Rockschool Ltd and Trinity College London). ABRSM was established in 1889- only a few years after Artane!
The Royal Schools referred to in ABRSM’s title are:
The Royal Academy of Music
The Royal College of Music
The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
The Royal Northern College of Music
More than 650,000 candidates take ABRSM exams each year in over 93 countries. All ASM students are encouraged to take their formal grade exams, and many go on to reach the highest grades in their chosen instruments. The School also helps in preparation for examinations for the Royal Irish Academy of Music
