Conductor of the Artane Youth Choir – Dave O’Connor
Dave “Doc”O’Connor A.L.C.M. Doc is a native of Cork but has lived in Dublin for over 30 years. He has made a name for himself in the music circles in Dublin and throughout Ireland as Musical Director, Arranger, Composer, Conductor and piano player. He has also worked extensively with many stage schools in Dublin and throughout the country teaching and arranging for performance. As Musical Director he has worked with both professional and non-professional casts on numerous musicals and also a host of Variety shows and Pantomimes. Awards include Best Musical Director at B.F.L.O and M.D. for the winning show of “John Player Tops” in its final year in 1997. He has worked as keyboard player and Musical Director for some of the best known entertainers in Ireland including Red Hurley, Brendan Grace, Brendan O’Carroll, June Rogers, Helen Jordan and many more. His T.V. work includes The Late Late Show, Kenny Live, and I.R.M.A. awards.
He was Musical Director of the Cork Opera House Christmas Panto from 2004 to 2008 providing two original songs in each of the last two years and was MD for their “Magic of the Musicals”. He was also MD for the very successful production of “Oliver” which was a joint venture between The Helix in Dublin and The Cork Opera House in 2005.
His Production Company Midas Music Company (which he runs with his wife Diana) has produced a number of very successful shows including two sold out runs of “High School Musical” in Dublin, which was seen by over 10,000 people. They have also produced two original musicals (music composed by Doc ) “Hard Times”, an award winning show at the Waterford International Festival Of Light Opera and “Whiskey In The Jar” which was first performed in 2011. More recently they brought PANTO back to Drimnagh with 3 very successful annual productions since 2014 in Mourne Road Hall.
