The redevelopment has provided the School with the extended facilities required to continue the growth of the Artane School of Music as a centre of excellence in Dublin’s Northside. These extensions have greatly improved the facilities for the Artane Band, the students who attend the School of Music, Artane Senior Band, Artane Community Choir and Artane Youth Choir. The lower extension includes a modern band room/recording studio with state of the art acoustics for the band members along with new modern music teaching facilities and recording engineer suite. The front of the complex boasts a new glass atrium complimented by a new car park and marching area.
In a speech addressing the crowd. Our Chairman Con Hogan praised and thanked Architect Shane Santry, Reddy Charlton Solicitors, Keith Craddock our builder and Dominic Slater who Chairs our facilities committee.
The Chairman also said “The Artane School exists to provide education in Music and Musicianship, leadership skills and character formation for the boys and girls who pass through it. In the almost 150 years of its existence it has, through the excellence of its musical programmes and the fame of the Artane Band carved its own niche in Irish culture and through its association with the GAA on big match days, it is known throughout the world”.
Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Ring said “I’m not patron of any other band or anything else in the city, so it means an awful lot to me. I’m born and reared in Ballybough and across the road from me was Croke Park. And to me Croke Park and the Artane Band were always one and the same”
Currently the Artane School of Music caters to 495 students though the various programmes, classes and tuition which we offer to people in the local community at all levels and ages.
