Tony Doherty | Head of Musicianship

Tony commenced his music studies as a member of the then Artane Boys Band in 1978. He studied clarinet under first Michael Roche and then Joe Lynch and toured Ireland with the band.  He continued his clarinet studies under Jack Conaghty upon leaving the band. Following his Leaving Certificate, he undertook undergraduate studies at the Mater Dei Institute of Education, taking form analysis and history studies under Dr Anne Murphy and compositional studies under Mr. Donal Hurley. Upon completion of his studies he was appointed to the staff of both the Artane Band and Beneavin De La Salle College, positions he holds to the present day.

Tony recently completed his post graduate studies in leadership and learning, and is currently the head of musicianship for the Artane School of Music and also holds the position of Assistant Principal in Beneavin De La Salle College.  His focus in education has been on the joint areas of excellence and retention.  His educational philosophy is shaped by his long experience, focusing on the value of remaining in the educational sphere as long as possible to maximise the possibilities that ensue.
